Career Speaker Series

Career Speaker Series is on hold until further notice.

Students in grades 7-12 and educators are invited to participate in a series of virtual Snack & Learns scheduled through the spring of 2021. Snack & Learns provide opportunities for students and educators to engage with professionals in a career cluster of interest or with staff and faculty at post-secondary institutions. All sessions are free and open to anyone interested. Most are scheduled for 30 minutes. Advanced registration for each session is required at https://forms.gle/RFRQBYxx5FgriL1A6.

 

March 2021 Snack & Learns

  • Creating Vision Statements, 3/3 at 10:30 am Eastern
    Dr. Armani Davis, faculty member at Indiana University of PA and faculty lead for the Coro Pittsburgh Fellowship in Public Affairs, will lead an interactive workshop for students highlighting different successful scenarios for various career paths and help students begin crafting a vision statement guided by values, passions, and communities. Come prepared to participate!

  • Energy Careers with Tenaska Power Station, 3/10 at 1 pm Eastern 
    Dr. Robert Mayfield, Tenaska Plant Manager, will be joined by power technicians to talk about energy careers, the future of energy, and how high school students can prepare for a successful career in the energy sector.

 

  • Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers Apprenticeship, 3/18 at 11 am Eastern
    Members of the Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers Local 9 will share about their training, wages and benefits, and careers such as bricklaying, stone mason, refractory, restoration work (PCC), tile setter & finisher will be discussed. This trade also offers opportunities for students interested in artistic careers, for those paths that lead to decorative aspects of the industry.

  • Breaking Down Financial Aid Offers, 3/24 at 11 am Eastern (60 minutes)
    Citizen’s Bank professionals will breakdown financial aid package information.

These sessions are organized by the Consortium for Public Education, a non-profit based in McKeesport, PA, that connects schools with community so that students can access the opportunities, resources, and experiences they need to imagine, plan, and be ready for their futures.
